What qualities or skills do you look for when hiring a co-op student?

We’re looking for students who are:

  • Pursuing degrees in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Strong in technical areas like C/C++, and/or Python, and knowledge or experience in Computer Software, Hardware, or Systems
  • Passionate about technology, innovation, and solving real-world problems
  • Eager to learn, collaborate, and contribute to a fast-paced, global team

How do UBC co-op students contribute to your organization?

UBC co-op students are key contributors to our innovation pipeline. They work on real, high-impact projects across areas like:

  • AI/ML: Deploying models on Snapdragon® platforms using Qualcomm’s proprietary tools for on-device intelligence
  • Software Engineering: Building web dashboards, optimizing embedded Bluetooth firmware, and developing internal tools
  • Hardware Design: Enhancing test fixtures and improving timing and frequency reference systems
  • Automotive: Supporting AI systems for automated driving and connected vehicle platforms

These projects help shape the future of intelligent edge devices, smart mobility, and next-gen wireless systems—all part of our mission.

What advice do you have for students interested in working at Qualcomm?

Here’s how to stand out:

  • Apply early: Most roles are posted in late August/early September, with hiring wrapping up by mid-February
  • Tailor your resume: Highlight relevant coursework, personal projects, and technical skills

  • Be prepared: Brush up on your fundamentals and be ready to talk through your problem-solving approach
