Peer 1 – Crystal Zheng – Oct 2023
Discipline: Mechanical Engineering
Email: peer1.engcoop@ubc.ca

Hello! I'm Crystal, a senior mechanical engineering student in the biomedical specialization. I have previously done four Co-op terms with three companies, which allowed me to gain diverse experiences and skills. My journey began with a role as a patent engineer intern at Midea, a Fortune 500 Chinese company renowned for home appliances. This internship introduced me to the professional work environment, in which I was able to obtain knowledge in patent preparation and strengthen my skills in technical documentation. Next, I gained valuable insights into the world of startups through working as a production intern at Conifer Homewares, a Vancouver-based company dedicated to producing eco-friendly 3D printed planters. My most recent Co-op adventure took me to Swisslog China, where I served as a mechanical design intern for stacker cranes. This role allowed me to delve even deeper into the technical R&D aspect, as well as project management. In summary, my participation in the Applied Science Co-op program has provided me with important experiences and unique perspectives on the industry. I am looking forward to working as the peer advisor this year to assist in your Co-op journey! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
